About Us

Beliefs

Good Shepherd is a member of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod and shares its beliefs. Our synod (church body) consists of 1200 congregations in the United States with a soul membership of about 400,000. We're the third largest Lutheran denomination in America.

  • As a Christian, Bible-believing church, we believe . . .There is only one God, miraculously existing as three separate beings--the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit
  • All people are sinful and face God's punishment for it
  • Jesus Christ suffered sins' punishment on the cross in our place
  • By a God-given faith, we receive Jesus' forgiveness won at the cross
  • Jesus rose from the dead to guarantee God's forgiveness and life after death
  • In baptism, anyone regardless of age may receive saving faith and forgiveness
  • The Holy Spirit brings miraculous changes to our lives through baptism and the Bible
  • In a gathering of Christians (a church), each person has significance and purpose
  • Christ rules world events for the good of Christians and to bring many more to faith
  • At death, a believer's soul is taken to heaven; on Judgment Day, their glorified bodies will be raised
